AMSA Volunteers Continue Their Mission with Project Food: Another Successful Day of Service in Riverside
On November 13th, AMSA members came together once again for a day of giving back with Project Food in downtown Riverside. With exams and assignments temporarily set aside, we embraced the opportunity to serve our community and support those in need. These events have become a cornerstone of our AMSA family, allowing us to forge deeper connections with Riverside’s homeless community.
This time, the day started even earlier than usual, as our team had a full schedule of activities planned. From preparing hearty meals in the kitchen to sorting and organizing donated items, every task felt meaningful. Cooking as a team brought out a spirit of camaraderie, and knowing that each meal would make someone’s day just a bit brighter kept us motivated.
When the serving began, the joy was palpable. Each “thank you” and smile we received reinforced why we continue to volunteer with Project Food. Every plate served was more than just food—it was a reminder to those we served that they are seen, valued, and cared for.
In addition to serving meals, AMSA also ran a clothing and essentials drive in the weeks leading up to the event. Thanks to generous donations from students, faculty, and local supporters, we were able to hand out coats, socks, and blankets—just in time for the colder weather. Witnessing the gratitude of individuals who received these items was a powerful reminder of how impactful small acts of kindness can be.
One of the most rewarding aspects of returning to these events is seeing familiar faces in the crowd. It feels like we’re building not just a tradition but a community of trust and mutual respect. These moments inspire us to keep showing up, even when our schedules get hectic.
As the day wrapped up, we reflected on the lessons learned and the connections formed. Every event with Project Food reminds us of the power of service and how working together can make a real difference. We’re incredibly thankful to all the volunteers and donors who make these events possible—this would not be achievable without your generosity and dedication.
We’re already looking forward to our next opportunity to support our neighbors in need. Until then, we’ll cherish the memories and carry the lessons of November 13th with us. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day another success for AMSA and Project Food!
