As aspiring medical professionals, we were thrilled to attend AMSA Day at CUSM School of Medicine on April 21st! The event provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about the medical school, meet current medical students, and participate in informative workshops.
The event kicked off with an overview of the CUSM School of Medicine and its admissions process. We learned about the school's mission to provide a comprehensive medical education that prepares students for successful careers in medicine. The admissions process was explained in detail, highlighting the importance of academic achievement, demonstrated commitment to the field of medicine, and personal characteristics such as resilience and empathy.
Following the presentation, we embarked on a campus tour that included a clinical skills demonstration with task trainers. It was fascinating to observe the students practice their skills in a simulated clinical environment, and we were impressed with the advanced technology and resources available to them.
During lunch, we had the opportunity to network with current medical students who shared their experiences and insights about the program. It was valuable to hear firsthand about the curriculum, clinical experiences, and research opportunities available to students.
After lunch, we participated in a medical student Q&A panel, where we had the chance to ask questions about life as a medical student, residency programs, and career paths in medicine. It was inspiring to hear about the diverse paths that current medical students had taken to get to where they are today.
Finally, we had the option to participate in an informative workshop on suturing. The workshop provided a hands-on opportunity to learn about the technique and practice our skills. Overall, AMSA Day at CUSM School of Medicine was a valuable experience that provided us with a better understanding of the medical school, its curriculum, and the career opportunities available to medical students. We were impressed with the resources available to students, the dedication of the faculty and staff, and the passion and commitment of the medical students we met!
