On May 24, 2023, UCR AMSA hosted the Healthy Hearts club for a valuable session on CPR training and heart health awareness. This event provided an opportunity for AMSA members to learn life-saving skills and gain essential knowledge about maintaining a healthy heart. The session kicked off with an introduction from the Healthy Hearts club representatives, who emphasized the importance of CPR knowledge and its potential to save lives in emergency situations. They shared eye-opening statistics about the prevalence of heart-related conditions and the critical role of early intervention.
The AMSA members were actively engaged as the Healthy Hearts board members demonstrated the proper techniques for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Participants had the opportunity to practice hands-on CPR on mannequins under the guidance of the experienced instructors. The session focused on key aspects such as chest compressions, rescue breaths, and the appropriate rhythm and depth for effective CPR.
Alongside the practical training, the Healthy Hearts Club representatives shared valuable information about heart health. They discussed common risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, such as poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and stress. They also highlighted the importance of regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management techniques in maintaining a healthy heart.
Thank you to the Healthy Hearts club for this interactive meeting that allowed AMSA members to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of heart health! Also, thank you to everyone who came to our meetings this quarter; we hope to see you next year as we have a lot of great meetings planned!
