Insights from Silverado Hospice on Volunteering in Hospice Care
This week, AMSA had the pleasure of hosting Yvette Williams, the Regional Volunteer Manager from Silverado Hospice, at our Week 6 General Meeting. Yvette shared her extensive experience working in hospice care, specifically focusing on providing compassionate end-of-life support to patients aged 18 and older.
Members gained insights into what hospice care entails, learning about the importance of enhancing patients' quality of life during their final stages. Yvette discussed her personal journey in hospice care, emphasizing the significance of emotional support, patient dignity, and the role volunteers play in enriching the lives of patients and their families.
Yvette highlighted the unique challenges faced in hospice settings, including navigating family dynamics, managing emotional stress, and the commitment required from volunteers. She provided practical advice on how interested members could get involved in the program, along with a clear outline of the expectations for volunteers.
